Yesterday, I woke up to find that several of my packages in the Arch User Repository (AUR) had been removed. The person deleting them claimed my packages were being deleted because they were "for one person", which clearly isn't the case. I know many of you guys use my packages, so it would have been unfair to you guys to not find a solution. So I created my own Arch repository on GitLab. NOTE: Since making this video, I have created a repository of software at: 🤍 So please use 'dtos-core-repo' rather than 'dt-arch-repo' which will be deprecated soon. As an Arch Linux user, I'm quite happy with my setup. However, there are many aspects I'm still learning about the various components that make up my system and how best to maintain them. In this video, I'll show you my discovery about Pacman's package cache and how to clear it to regain storage. I briefly looked online and there are automated ways to clear it. I'm sticking with doing it manually for now. 📜 Comment Rules ► Have common sense ► Do not spam the chat or promote things unless asked to. ► Have common courtesy ► Treat each other well and help create a positive environment. ► Do not trash talk others. ► Do not engage in racism, sexism, etc. We're all flawed humans who are trying to find a purpose at the end of the day. ► Limit discussion on divisive topics. ► Respect the decision of moderators ► Have fun 🤍 🖥️ Projects Website: 🤍 Owned Minecraft Server: play.libregalaxy.org Co-Owned Minecraft Server: southhollow.us 🪐 Libre Galaxy Information Java Edition: Server Name: Libre Galaxy IP: play.libregalaxy.org Bedrock Edition: Server Name: Libre Galaxy IP: play.libregalaxy.org Port: 19132 (default) 😀 About Me Hi! Aura is a package manager for Arch Linux. Its original purpose is as an AUR helper, in that it automates the process of installing packages from the AUR (Arch User Repository). Arch Linux: Install Software From Source In this video I'm showing the simple way of installing a program from source in case you can't find it in the repositories or the AUR. We'll go through installing DWM window manager from source with the GNU build utilities ( gcc compiler & libraries ) and we'll also install a PDF reader program from an installer downloaded from the developer's website. This process is not only specific to Arch Linux, but it can also be performed on any other Linux distribution as well. NOTE: In case if you installed the DWM and you're a beginner with window managers, make sure you have the line "exec dwm" inside ~/.xinitrc in your /home directory. Once you are in DWM, run xrandr from the terminal to find our your connected display. Resolutions can be changed with xrandr output "your-output-display" mode "your-resolution" Example: xrandr output VGA-1 mode 1920x1080 and you can also put this inside your ~/.xinitrc file on the first line and have the exec dwm on the last line. ▼ Video Timeline: - 00:00 | Introduction 02:24 | Downloading & installing packages from source 12:38 | Uninstalling software that was built from source

Like any other operating system, Linux has implemented a memory management efficiently and even more than that. But if any process is eating away your memory and you want to clear it, Linux provides a way to flush or clear memory cache. I have a small web server with a large enough load with an average visitor of 5 thousand users per day, with 1 gigabyte of memory the server can handle it well. load average below 1 percent, uptime has been years and and never restarted or encountered problems. The server ran my sql, php and nginx very smoothly. #linux #reset #cache #clearcache #crontab #cronjob #bash #script #maintenance #trick #hack #tutorial

A concise intro to Arch Linux's package management options. Motivation: Last week I helped my roommate setup Arch Linux as his first Linux desktop. Explaining the various facets of package management brought me back to when I'd first learned Arch and was discovering the use of pacman, AUR, yaourt, and more. While there's no shortage of great documentation around all these topics, I felt a clean overview of key concepts critical to a new user would have made both of our lives easier.
